Labour enjoys a significant majority on the 51 seat council and has operated a leader and cabinet style of administration since May 2001. The Executive comprises the Leader, Deputy Leader and six portfolio holders:

  • Development Operations
  • Development Strategy
  • Performance and HR
  • Leisure, Culture and Youth
  • Environment and Sustainability
  • Health, Legal and Democratic Renewal

The Council has developed strong links with neighboring Allerdale Borough Council, which shares many of the challenges facing Copeland and works in partnership with both the County Council and the Lake District National Park.
