Thank you for your interest in the post of Chief Executive with Copeland Borough Council. Copeland is an area of tremendous contrasts. Some of the most highly technical industries in the world sit side by side with the timeless landscape of dramatic coastline, mountains and lakes which shapes our Borough.
We are a local authority currently under-going significant change and challenge with the determination to build on our efforts in improving the performance of the services we provide to meet the high expectations of the communities we serve.
We have set in place a positive change agenda and we are looking for someone to continue to steer us on this journey, leading a strong corporate team, managing change and delivering high quality services. Like all District Councils we are working with our partners and neighbours to help create a shared platform of excellent public services.
Uniquely among district councils, we are at the heart of the national agenda for change in the UK’s energy policy with the Sellafield site as our biggest local employer on what is branded Britain’s Energy Coast, and several potential nuclear new build sites in our territory. Consequently, we are the key player in managing the transformation of a community which simultaneously faces both great opportunity and great risk.
Needless to say, our future plans have to be developed in the challenging financial climate which all of the public sector is facing. Sadly, just at this crucial time, our Chief Executive has been forced to retire as a result of very serious health problems. We urgently need a new dynamic and enterprising individual with the energy and enthusiasm to take on the high profile role of heading up the management of an organisation whose mission is to lead West Cumbria to a prosperous future.
Alongside the obviously professionally stimulating environment, we offer the chance to work, and make an impact, in one of England’s most scenic environments, with some of the most spectacular scenery in the Lake District National Park within our Borough.
Copeland Borough Council is continuing its journey forward to a challenging and exciting future.
